  • October finds Oktave back in New York, hosting a showcase for the hotly tipped Stroboscopic Artefacts label out of Berlin. Label owner and producer de jour Lucy will headline the night, along with label mate Donor. Although just a year old, Stroboscopic Artefacts is making a major impact on international techno, with releases supported and charted by the very finest DJs in the world, including Chirs Leibing, Cio D'or, Dino Sabatini, Luke Slater, Peter Van Hoesen and Ben Klock. Label boss Lucy contributed a CLR mix to the high-profile series in the summer of 2010, and things have only gotten hotter for this young producer/entrepreneur since then. With releases from the likes of Pfirter, Perc, Xhin and Claudio PRC, Stroboscopic Artefacts is one of the fastest rising techno labels in the world. Lucy Lucy: producer, DJ, founder of Stroboscopic Artefacts. That’s probably how you know him. But there’s also Luca Mortellaro, a published author, experimental sound designer, and the man behind the Lucy moniker. There’s no doubt that the two are linked, but it’s certainly the hidden facets of Luca Mortellaro that are responsible for the dynamic output of Lucy. In 2005 Lucy left his native Italy for Paris. In search of romance? Perhaps. The fact that the very first demo he ever sent was noticed by James Holden and that he’s now releasing on Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver, makes Lucy’s story more than romantic, it’s fit for the silver screen. As he delved deeper into electronic music Lucy made the essential move from Paris to Berlin. It was here he launched record label Stroboscopic Artefacts a platform that illuminates pioneering electronic music. Under Lucy’s careful curation Stroboscopic Artefacts has garnered international attention and emerged as one of the most exciting labels in the scene. Lucy’s DJ sets are techno layered with deep dub and textured with lucid IDM. Never one to shy away from ripping into the peak time and equally in his element playing the ecstatic afterhours, elegance is the foundation of his approach. He manages to refuse the obvious and yet satisfies dancefloors’ appetites for the unexpected. A quick listen to his CLR podcast, Resident Advisor mix or the Modyfier process will attest to one thing: his elusive approach is too angular for genres and pigeon holes. It’s this quality that’s seen him grace the decks at Berghain, Fabric, New York’s Oktave party and Mexico’s Bar America. With a host of EPs and remixes released and forthcoming on the most influential labels such as Prologue, Mote Evolver and CLR, looking towards the future is exciting Donor Greg Schappert aka Donor was born in New York in 1979. Having lived in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo and Brooklyn, where he currently resides, Greg has acquired quite a few musical influences. However, it was the mid to late 90’s sounds of cities such as Birmingham, Berlin, Detroit and New York that laid the foundation for what originally sparked Greg's interest in electronic music and for what would later influence his production. After catching up with Tom Russell aka Truss sometime in 2006, the pair secured their first release on Jeremy P. Caulfield’s Dumb-Unit imprint. Donor / Truss have gone on to release further well received records on labels such as the legendary NYC based Synewave as well as top UK label Perc Trax. They have been remixed by the likes of Norman Nodge, Mike Parker and Samulli Kemppi and have recently remixed Forward Strategy Group. Donor's recent solo release for Stroboscopic Artefacts is a strong indication of what the future holds for both his production and live acts. Jeff Derringer eff Derringer is the resident DJ and creative director of Oktave. With the Oktave project, the last year has seen Jeff host and play alongside Techno’s cutting edge: Silent Servant, Par Grindvik, Claro Intelecto, Samuli Kemppi, Cio D’or, Three and a host of New York’s homegrown talent like Insideout, Eric Cloutier, and Derek Plaslaiko. ‘Principle’ is Jeff’s new EP on Subtrak Records, featuring two of his original productions, and remixes from Samuli Kemppi, Noah Pred, and Subtrak’s Derek Marin. Jeff recently relocated to Chicago, where he and partner Kevin Gregor will debut on November 5th at Smartbar with Silent Servant and DVS1. Currently, Jeff is mastering his next EP.
