À propos

  • OUR HOUSE IS OPEN. City Wall Records aims to release music that is fresh and free from stereotypes, sometimes fun, sometimes serious but always exciting, liberating and inspiring. How is this achieved? City Wall gives artists space and creative license, allowing them to express themselves and be individual, but also feel part of a movement. By promoting freedom of musical expression, this empowers producers to follow their feelings in the creative process. The label is open to releasing a wide variety of genres, from techno to house, to electronica. This is a reflection of the fact that electronic music is an ever changing medium, so to get fixated on a genre will ultimately lead to death. The concept of staying open to change and at the same time respecting and learning from the past is paramount to the City Wall philosophy. The label was founded by me, Ross Harper in 2008. I was a “90s Baby”, by which I mean I spent my teenage years dancing and partying at London clubs and raves in the mid and late nineties. The “birth” energy from this epoch is what drives the heart behind City Wall. 90s London was a very unique space, there were no smart phones and just about anything was permitted in the London clubs. Electronic dance music was really only just being born, it was just a spark of life. Within this it was impossible not to be influenced by the gay club scene in London at the time, with venues like Heaven and the Brixton Fridge, and parties like Trade. At the edges it all got mingled into one. And same with the music, techno, trance, banging trance, house, hard house, garage, US house, Detroit techno, London acid techno. Yes there was a lot of trying to “box it up”, but ultimately everything slowly bled from and into everything else. And so it is this original birth spirit of raw creative freedom that Ross looks for in the music released on City Wall and hopefully you will find it here too. How is this achieved? City Wall gives artists space
