- The limited edition item provides online access to Matthew Dear's new full-length.
Ghostly International have announced details for a new collector's item set to go on sale tomorrow: a small black obelisk, or "totem," that gives the owner online access to Matthew Dear's upcoming album, Black City.
Ghostly describes the totem as "an abstract key to an unknown door" that is "both a sculptural representation of the themes explored in Black City and a symbolic conduit to the music itself." More specifically, it's a small oblong box that kind of resembles a sky-scraper, inscribed with the letters MDBC and a unique "alphanumeric suffix" that provides access to a private page on www.matthewdear.com where Black City can be streamed or downloaded. The totem was designed by Constantin and Laurene Boym of Boym Partners, a New York-based outfit that won the 2009 National Design Award for Product Design. It can be had exclusively through the Ghostly Store starting this Tuesday to the tune of $125.
