- Shitkatapult will release the Sun Electric co-founder's first full-length in March.
Former Sun Electric member Tom Thiel will release his first solo album next month on Shitkatapult.
Thiel has been making experimental electronic music for more than 20 years, beginning in the late '80s with Stephen Fischer and Max Loderbauer as Fischerman's Friend. After Fischer left the group, Thiel and Loderbauer carried on as Sun Electric, eventually becoming a '90s cult favorite. Thiel's next project was Bus, a duo with Daniel Meteo that put out two albums and a few 12-inches on ~scape.
But as prolific as Thiel has been in collaborations, his solo output has been notably scarce, with just a few singles back in the '90s (as TTT and V.A.L.I.S.) and a handful of productions under his real name since then. His self-titled album features mostly new productions, plus the previously released tracks "Laissez Faire" and "Nordish." The record overall has a kosmische-inspired style that will be familiar to fans of Sun Electric, with ambient and left-field numbers offsetting 4/4 grounded tunes.
