- The Austrlian producer's next album is an ode to his neighborhood in Berlin.
Deepchild will release a new album this October called Neukölln Burning.
Real name Rick Bull, Deepchild is an Australian artist who's been based in Berlin since 2009. His new LP takes inspiration from his new city, and more specifically the Neukölln district where he lives.
"Neukölln has come to represent to me a place of rebirth, of starting again," he says. "The sense of a culture supplanted into an unfamiliar environment and allowed to grow new roots, to reframe what 'home' means in a way which asks fundamental questions, and relies deeply on the kindness of strangers... I’ve included a lot of found-sound elements from touring the US, as well as subtle references to Arabic and Sufi music—very much reflective of the heavily immigrant culture of Neukölln."
Bull recorded the album during the gloom of this past year's winter, an experience that was intensified by his decision to wean himself off anti-depression medication he'd been taking for years. It will see release on Noah Pred's label, Thoughtless Music.
