- Ghostly International will release the Detroit producer's latest album in August.
The latest album from Shigeto, No Better Time Than Now, will see release through Ghostly International this August.
The producer born Zach Saginaw has long combined an array of musical influences—ambient, hip-hop, jazz, folk—with personal ones. Two of his early EPs, for example, took inspiration from his grandmother, a Japanese-American woman who spent time in internment camps in the US during World War II. No Better Time Than Now is set to display a similar stylistic restlessness, with a particularly eventful year having spurred on the music. He sets the scene like this: "2012 was a powerful year for me. I released my second LP; I played nearly 180 shows in 360 days; I made the move back home from Brooklyn, NY to Detroit, MI; a six-year relationship of mine came to an end and I made it 30 years on the planet." You can get a taste for the album's sound over at Pitchfork, where the album's first single, "Detroit Part 1," is streaming.
