When it comes to New Year's Eve in Mexico, there's a tendency to swap the hustle and bustle of the metropolis for laid-back coastal getaways such as Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. As such, this year's top picks all take place across the two spots, which only lie an hour away from one other.
Far and away the most talked-about event on this year's calendar is the Young Turks party at Caleta Tankah in Tulum. Featuring a headlining performance from The xx, the 14-hour beachside marathon will also include sets from Four Tet, Koreless, John Talabot, Pional and Sampha. Grimes and New York synth pop duo Chairlift complete the bill. Meanwhile, 30 minutes south at Akiin Beach Club Tulum, Audiofly's Flying Circus bash will be in full swing. Joining the Anglo-Italian duo will be a host of party regulars, including M.A.N.D.Y. (Philip), Tiefschwarz, Robag Wruhme, Pachanga Boys, Maayan Nidam and local favourites Balcazar & Sordo. The party will run from 7 PM through 10 AM.
Over at Playa Del Carmen, Coco Maya Beach Club & Lounge will host a 20-hour house and techno extravaganza, running from 10 PM through to 6 PM. Joining local talents Bastard Love and Gog will be Jay Tripwire, Marc Houle, Frank Lorber, Juan Atkins, D'Julz and DJ W!ld, with the latter two making their Mexican debuts at the event. For those still standing, Blue Venado Beach Club have invited the likes of Tone Of Arc, Kate Simko, Bart Skills, Tony Rohr, Peter Horrevorts and John Creamer to oversee a 24-hour Recovery 2014 party. The festivities kick off at 10 PM on NYE, with all proceeds going to the victims of the recent typhoon disaster in the Philippines.
Tickets for the Flying Circus, Recovery 2014 and Cocco Room events are all available on RA.
