- The American label's first 12-inch of 2015 comes out next month.
Fade To Mind has announced an EP from Rizzla called Iron Cages.
Rizzla, AKA Brian Friedberg, has been a staple of the Fade To Mind roster and their parties since the beginning, but usually behind the decks rather than as a producer. (He's also a member of the #KUNQ collective alongside False Witness, Shyboi and others.) With Iron Cages—which is also the label's first new release in 2015, aside from a reissue of Kelela's debut—he puts his productions in the spotlight, offering up five new tracks. Montreal's Odile Myrtil appears on the title tune, which you can stream over at Fader.
"Iron Cages, to me, is about taking charge of abusive relationships, sexual or sociological, and the pleasure that ending pain causes," Friedberg says. "The title refers to being trapped, obviously, but breaking out, and the name comes from the classic book about the mechanisms of American racism by Ronald Takaki."
