- Awesome Tapes From Africa and Jamie Tiller will both begin Australian tours this weekend. Both acts have a knack for unearthing and curating hidden gems. Awesome Tapes From Africa—real name Brian Shimkovitz—has built a reputation as the go-to man for African rarities, while Tiller's Music From Memory label has showcased both old and music from a broad range of innovative artists. They'll start the trip with gigs at Boney in Melbourne: Shimkovitz plays on October 30th with The Senegambian Jazz Band and the Esese DJs, then Tiller plays on the 31st with Andras Fox and Myles Mac. They head to Highlands festival together on November 1st before hitting double-bill gigs at The Bird in Perth on the 4th and Goodgod Small Club in Sydney on the 6th. Tiller has a solo set lined up for Brisbane on November 7th to wrap up the tour.
