- The first of two volumes, composed by members of Texas synth band S U R V I V E, is due out this week.
Netflix will release part one of the soundtrack for their original series Stranger Things on Friday, August 12th.
The popular series is scored by analog synth collectors Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who play in the Austin band S U R V I V E. The soundtrack, which references iconic composers like John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream, has become a major talking point of the show. Now Netflix has announced that they'll release it in two volumes, starting with the first one this Friday.
"We discussed having a classic tone and feel to the music for the show but being reserved enough that it wasn't '80s cheese," Stein says, "while offering a refreshing quality so that felt modern. This was one of the qualities that drew them to our music in the first place. Having a familiarity with classic synths worked, but with an overall forward thinking approach."
The soundtrack will land just a few weeks before S U R V I V E's second album, RR7349, which comes out via Relapse and Holodeck September 30th.
