Sub Club will celebrate 30 years of operation with a string of events in 2017.
An all-night set from residents Harri & Domenic is up first on Saturday, April 1st, 30 years to the day since Sub Club opened. KiNK steps up for a live set on April 8th, followed by DJ sets from Kerri Chandler (April 15th) and The Black Madonna (May 6th). There's also a date at Barrowland Ballroom on July 15th, headlined by Mr. Fingers (AKA Larry Heard), who'll be performing live in the UK for the first time in more than 20 years. Then there's Sub Club SoundSystem, a two-day inner-city festival on August 26th and 27th. Dixon and Maceo Plex are both confirmed, with further details TBA.
"The foundation of the Sub has always been built on the resident DJs who helm the key nights, most significantly the massively influential Optimo whose legendary Sunday weekly spanned an unbroken 13 years without ever booking a guest DJ," says Mike Grieve, Sub Club's director. "And of course Harri & Domenic whose Subculture Saturday nighter has now endured for 23 solid years. Having the Subculture boys bossing the booth for the April 1st birthday party pays due homage to their influence and the spirit of the Subbie."
In 2016, RA's In Residence series stopped by Sub Club for a month-long series of parties. You can read about the venue's history, soundsystem and staff in our profile of the club.
