- The LP, out this week, follows the Jamaican dancehall outfit's 2016 effort Bird Sound Power.
A new Equiknoxx album, Colón Man, is being released this week on Demdike Stare's DDS label.
DDS is calling it the Jamaican dancehall outfit's "first album proper" following last year's Bird Sound Power, which contained music made between the late '00s and 2015. Colón Man was recorded by Gavin Blair (Gavsborg), Jordan Chung (Time Cow) and their crew between December 2016 and June 2017. It was compiled with help from Jon K and Demdike Stare.
The label explains that Colón Man gets its name from a Jamaican tale and song about a "mysterious character" who was "one of over 100,000 Jamaicans who returned from working in Cólon on completion of the Panama Canal."
This tale, we're told, becomes "a metaphorical foundation" for the album, which acknowledges "the vital groundwork of previous generations of producers, whilst soundly contextualising their mutant new advancements of Jamaican dancehall."
