  • A concert premiering compositions from Laurie Spiegel and Daphne Oram has been announced for this year's BBC Proms. The night draws from the legacy of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, charting musical innovation in the aftermath of the Second World War. Scheduled at Royal Albert Hall for Monday, July 23rd, the event will host the world premiere of a new Laurie Spiegel composition, "Only Night Thoughts," which will be performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra led by Robert Ames. A rediscovered Daphne Oram composition, "Still Point," will also be played for the first time. Written in 1948 for turntables, live electronics and a double orchestra, it was thought to be lost for 20 years. It will be performed by composer and turntablist Shiva Feshareki. Suzanne Ciani, another pioneering electronic artist, has also been tapped for a performance with the Buchla 200e synthesiser. She will revisit sequences she first composed for the instrument in 1975. Delia Derbyshire's "The Delian Mode," a five-minute composition composed in 1964, will open the night, followed by CHAINES' "Knockturning."
