Leeds' Mint Club is closing after 20 years

- The UK venue cited "comprehensive redevelopment" near the club as the reason the team cannot renew or extend their lease.
- Mint Club in Leeds is closing after 20 years in the space. The club's team announced the closure in a Facebook post, explaining, "The area around the club is being comprehensively redeveloped, and we were not able to renew or extend the lease." They continue: "It has been a big one to swallow for all of us here and there is only one way to go. In style... We want to thank everyone for their support over these years and helping us make Mint a brand that is recognised around the world." The first-ever Mint show at the venue was played by Derrick Carter back in 1998 for Back To Basics. In 2009, Mint promoters System, who also run Cocoon In The Park, officially took over ownership of the club. Along with the announcement, Mint Club shared its first phase of closing parties, which will feature Skream, Seth Troxler, Nightmares On Wax and more. Its closing season will continue into 2019, with more details still to be announced. The statement also said that Mint will live on at its warehouse space, which will be refurbished, and as a promoter. Its annual festival took place this weekend. Read the full statement.
