- "I realised I wanted to be my own boss with my own music," said Gou about establishing an imprint.
Peggy Gou is kicking off her new label, Gudu Records, with an EP of her own.
Moment, out on April 19th, will have two new tracks from the South Korean-born, Berlin-based artist, called "Starry Night" and "Han Pan." As on her RA-recommended Once EP for Ninja Tune last year, Gou layers her own vocals (in Korean and English) over the tracks. Jee-ook Choi, who designed the artwork on the 2018 EP, has also done so on Moment, and she'll oversee Gudu Records' artistic direction.
Last August, Gou teased her imprint in an interview with i-D, explaining that the name comes from the Korean word for shoes, and that it's also "a play on 'Gou do' or, in her words, 'Peggy Gou does.'"
"I realised I wanted to be my own boss with my own music," Gou told the Vice-owned magazine. "At first I wanted to have just my music, but now I think people would like to know what kind of artists I support."
Listen to "Starry Night."
