- The LA artist will put out her first full-length, which explores themes of duality, on Stones Throw.
Sudan Archives will release her first album, Athena, via Stones Throw on November 1st.
The Cincinnati-born, LA-based artist—who mixes vocals, violin and experimental beats—emerged on a pair of EPs for Peanut Butter Wolf's label, Sudan Archives and Sink, which she now says were "like a haiku of what the album is."
Athena explores themes of duality; an identical twin, Brittney Denise Parks has long been familiar with opposites existing in one entity. On the LP, she explores this concept as it relates to good and evil, as well as vulnerability and strength. Athena sees Parks collaborating for the first time, working with producers and musicians including Wilma Archer (Jessie Ware, Nilüfer Yanya), Washed Out, Paul White (Danny Brown, Charli XCX) and Rodaidh McDonald (The xx, Sampha, Adele).
Listen to the first single, "Confessions."
Back in 2017, Sudan Archives performed at our Community Connections series in LA. Watch a clip.
Sudan Archives has not shared a full tracklist for Athena.
Stones Throw will release Athena on November 1st, 2019.
