Future Four - This Is The Remix Of The Future Four

  • Andy Meecham—of Bizarre Inc, Chicken Lips and The Emperor Machine fame—released This Is The Sound Of Future Four, his first release as Future Four, on Erol Alkan's Phantasy in April this year. Composed solely on an Akai MPC3000 using sound sets from the '90s discovered on a load of old floppy disks, the original tracks—from the euphoric pianos of "Into Orbit" to the frantic videogame synths of "Phase 2"—are a brilliantly authentic step back into the warehouse raves of yesteryear. Heading up this remix package is Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer's superb Tuff City Kids' rework of "Gwad Bwash," which stretches the succinct, squelchy original into a double-length deep epic complete with a delicious rave piano line. Dark Circles' rework of "Into Orbit" pairs a slightly altered piano melody with a booming bassline and bass drums. Jacques Renault's remix of "Phase Two" takes the original's rapid 8-bit synths and underlays them with a pulsing peak-time acid line. Here's hoping that supply of floppy disks doesn't run dry any time soon.
