- The Fade To Mind boss returns with his first music in two years.
- It's been a while since the Fade To Mind head Kingdom, AKA Ezra Rubin, released his own music. EXTERRA (Vol. 1) is the first EP to come out since 2017's Tears In The Club, which itself had been six years in the making. On EXTERRA (Vol. 1), Rubin steps back into the choppy, sample-heavy sound that became a signature of the Fade To Mind scene.
"LLEWXAM" is a barebones thumper broken up by pitched vocal loops, a tabla and the occasional synth flourish. "Azuza" is equally as skittish, but there's a deeper, chilled low end. That lounge vibe comes through most on "High Enough," where a soulful jazz-funk groove carries Tiara Thomas's smoky R&B vocal. She's one of three collaborators on the record. The others are Ms. Boogie and the longtime Fade To Mind affiliate and Qween Beat founder MikeQ, neither of which stray from familiar terrain.
