- Brasília's best electro.
- Last year, Brazilian-Paraguayan DJ Amanda Mussi tipped me to Nice & Deadly, a label based out of Brasília, Brazil's isolated capital. I was hooked instantly—here were DJs and producers making hard-hitting breaks, techno and electro, all from a place I'd never heard mentioned in the same breath as dance music. The latest release is from cofounder Data Assault, featuring four tracks (and one remix) of lithe, retro-futurist electro. The title cut is a major highlight, with urgent, bleepy synths, yelping vocals and old-school scratching sounds, though I'm also partial to "Sombra Noturna"'s malfunctioning machine noises buffeted by eerie strings. Put this one on and then do yourself a favour and flip through the rest of the label's releases—you won't be disappointed.
