Nailah Hunter - Forest Dark

  • The Los Angeles harpist and producer returns with one of her catchiest tracks yet.

  • Nailah Hunter's music blurs the lines between blissful pop and pastoral New Age, embracing the chillest tropes of Los Angeles' thriving experimental scene. She's dabbled in straightforward songwriting before, but that tendency has never been quite as overt as it is on her latest single, "Forest Dark." Centered on a crunchy drum groove, jazzy horns and angelic vocals, it brings to mind Minnie Riperton as much as Dorothy Ashby. The glitchy studio contributions from Oakland experimentalist (and fellow Leaving Records signee) Brogan Bentley elevate it to one of Hunter's most gripping songs to date.
