- Himan turned 25 last month, and Barcelona imprint Espai Music turned one. Here, the young Portuguese producer presents a stripped and atmospheric piece, with three remixes largely following suit. The original version of "Vanishing" balances on a see-sawing melody which generates most of the track's swing. In many cases that responsibility is shouldered by basslines, but here the low-end acts more like a pad, rising and falling like slow breaths. Gentle hi-hats and additional lengthy notes create subtle builds and breaks. That'd be atmospheric enough, but Himan also adds faint male chanting into the mix. Ned Rise's remix takes things a little bit more anthemic, though that's not saying much considering the unobtrusiveness of the source material. The kicks are harder, the see-sawing notes more brash and female harmony added to the male.
Where the previous two versions have a strictly linear feel, Oliver Schories and Uner's remixes are funkier, and made for a smaller room. Uner adds a hip-shaking bassline, while Schories generates the same sense of movement using quasi-Latin percussion. The latter feels mostly like an original, only squeezing Himan's pieces in during a break. In contrast, Uner's remix—probably the best of the three—makes use of the original hook throughout and supplements it with jaunty keyboard.
